The Introduction of Beijing Haidian Teachers Training College
Established in 1972, Beijing Haidian Teachers Training College (BHTTC) has undertaken the professional development tasks covering different subjects and career stages, for more than 40,000 teachers from kindergartens, primary and secondary schools and vocational schools in Haidian District. Adhering to our college spirit ��Responsibility and Commitment, Teamwork and Research, Hard Work and Dedication, Being Open and Inclusive, Innovating Collaboratively��, and the concept of ��For the Best of Teacher Development and Student Learning��, we focus on (emphasize) the curriculum guidance, the teaching and learning research, the quality assessment, the resource development and the teacher development centers. And we have provided strong professional support and have made outstanding contributions for the educational development of Haidian District in the past half century.
We now have built a high-level professional team with 128 teacher mentors (Jiaoyanyuan in Chinese Pinyin), which include 19 professors, 20 Teachers of Honor, 46 municipal-level and 44 district-level experienced teachers. Among these teaching mentors, 16 of them have doctoral and post-doctoral degrees, 80 of them have masters degrees.
Guided by the paradigm of ��Big Research for Promotion of Teaching and Learning (RPTL, Jiaoyan in Chinese Pinyin) System��, we have fully supported the educational quality improvement of Haidian District. We have developed the teacher training course system called ��Three-Dimensions (features and needs of teachers themselves, their teaching posts and the curriculum) and Four-Levels (nation-municipality-district-school)��, with compulsory and optional courses. Accordingly, we have formulated the Three-Level Linkage (district-school district-school) deep RPTL mode. Meanwhile, the annual training courses for teachers in different grades who teach different subjects, also named ��5+M+N�� (5 different compulsory courses, several compulsory courses with limited options, and several optional courses), have been continuously optimized in recent years. Meanwhile, a wide variety of advanced training projects on different subjects and topics, international training projects have been launched.
In recent five years, we have undertaken 66 educational research projects on national and municipal levels, with which we have helped teachers in and out of Haidian District solve their practical problems and optimize their teaching practices. The well-known action research findings, called Creating and Building Teaching Improving System in District Level Based on Curriculum Standard, has won the award of Outstanding Innovations in basic education at both the national level and the municipal level. Based on years of practical endeavor and research exploration , a series of books have been published in recent years, such as Witness Teaching improvement: Narration on Haidian RPTL, STEM Subject Teaching: Linking and Empowering Teachers, Academic Standard and Teaching Instruction Series, The Key Instructional Questions in Chemistry Teaching, Guidebook for Training New Teachers in Primary and Secondary Schools, Guidebook for Training Experienced Teachers in Primary and Secondary Schools, and Designing and Implementing School-Based Training etc.
We have undertaken the task of running the BHTTC Educational Group since May, 2019, with the integration strategies to facilitate the coordinated development of different schools. By undertaking 13 different important reform tasks, we are now leading educational innovation nation-wide.
We have actively undertaken the government's tasks in various kinds of paired assistances, taking advantage of Haidian's teaching and research expertise to contribute in the fight against poverty.
Apart from its domestic networking among the teacher education institutions, we maintain close partnership with over 20 international universities and research institutions for collaborative research and conferencing endeavors in relation to teacher development.
